Where consent works

The theme checkbox collects consent on the cart page or cart drawer. The checkout rule requires current consent when a supported checkout starts. This works on supported Shopify plans without putting a checkbox inside checkout.

Checkout path	What happens
Online store cart → checkout	Customer ticks the checkbox; the rule accepts current consent.
Direct /checkout link or cart express checkout	The rule blocks missing or old consent and shows your error.
Product-page Buy it now	Starts without cart consent; the rule blocks it. Hiding these buttons is the default setting.
Headless storefront	The rule can enforce consent, but you must build your own checkbox and write the required cart attributes.
B2B checkout	The rule enforces consent.
Draft order created in Shopify admin	Shopify shows a warning that staff can override. A customer checkout link is blocked unless the merchant chooses Ignore all checkout rules when sharing it.
Point of Sale, order editing, API-created orders, subscription renewals	The checkout rule does not run for these paths.

The checkbox requires an Online Store 2.0 theme. An older theme may still have the checkout rule but no place to collect consent through this app, so update the theme before turning on a required rule for online shoppers.
